Xeno Patrol

Xeno Patrol

Week 08

By Kyle (design & code) · Released

Xeno Patrol is a run-and-gun platformer. You play a space marine with three hit points and a rifle that overheats when you lean on the trigger. Run, jump, and shoot through 100 levels of aliens and traps, from dusk crash sites to acid caves to the hive. The early levels ease you in, then the screen fills up.

How to play

  • Move with the arrow keys or the on-screen joystick.
  • Jump across gaps and over spikes.
  • Shoot the aliens before they close in.
  • Reach the exit hatch to clear the level.

Desktop: Move with the arrow keys or WASD. Jump with Space, shoot with X or J. Hold Up while firing to aim upward. Mouse players press and hold the on-screen control pad. · Mobile: A joystick on the left moves the marine. Two buttons on the right handle jump and shoot. The playfield sits above the controls so your thumbs stay clear.

Why we built this

We started from a plain idea: a marine who runs, jumps, and shoots aliens. Seven revisions later the levels are longer, the gun overheats, and the roster runs to twenty-one alien kinds. Most of that came from playtests that kept ending too quickly.

FAQ

  • Is Xeno Patrol free to play?

Yes. It runs in your browser with no download or signup.

  • How do I play Xeno Patrol on my phone?

Touch controls load on their own: a joystick on the left, jump and shoot buttons on the right. The action stays above your thumbs so nothing hides behind them.

  • How many levels are there?

One hundred, across five biomes. A new alien type joins the roster every ten levels.

  • Does the gun run out of ammo?

There is no ammo limit, but the rifle overheats if you hold the trigger down. Let it cool and it fires again.

  • Is it hard?

The first levels are gentle, then it gets crowded with shooters and traps. With three hit points and an overheating gun, you have to time your shots and pick your fights.
